Portrait shoot

I did my first portrait shoot a few days ago! I made my sister be still while I took pictures of her. She wasn’t very happy about it.

Actually, she was just fine with it.

And I got to use my new lens! It is the Tamron 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens.

I had fun, and I think she did too.

    1. Tamron makes lenses for just about every camera brand. I would say “go for it!” If they have a lens that Canon does not have that you want, or one that is less expensive than the Canon version, or has better reviews, go ahead and try it! I love my Tamron lens, and it works great with the camera. The only think that I noticed is that it thinks it is the Canon 70-300mm lens, and does not have a profile that allows it to lighten the corners to make up for the darkening caused by the lens. But that doesn’t seem to be a problem, so it’s okay. 🙂 (Oh, and if you aren’t sure if a lens will fit your camera, look it up on Amazon.com. They have a lens fit calculator so that you can find out if it will fit right. :D)

  2. I love the second picture from the bottom. I feel like that one shows more personality than the ones before.

    They do look a little underexposed to me. You were shooting in shade, right? Her skin looks a little gray to me. I think it would have looked better if you had a way to put some light on her from the side, but then again, I’m not an expert on manipulating light. (My events from school photos always look a little too shaded around the face for my taste, too.)

      You know, you’re probably right. I should have used a gold coloured reflector. Which would be easier if I had one, but anyway. I can probably fix that using post processing. Lemme check, and then I’ll let you see what I can come up with.

    1. Thank you! I looked at that website, and will try to figure out how to do the same thing with GIMP. 😀 Or, when I am able to use it, Darktable. (Like Lightroom, but not Adobe. And free, which is important. 🙂 )

      It is a good image! I am going to go back to your blog and look around once I get a new computer. The monitor that I am using right now messes with the colours, so I am trying to avoid doing anything with photos while I have to use this monitor. As you can probably imagine, being a fellow photographer, it isn’t working very well…

      1. I believe Leanne Cole has tutorials on using GIMP. Look at her blog and ask her if you don’t find one. She is a fantastic photographer and a really good graphics artist. Just Google “Leanne Cole”. Your images look good. You could enhance them if you could see them on a good graphics monitor though. Good luck. I’ll be following along! 🙂

        1. I actually follow her blog, and have for a few months. 😀 I need to go and check the tutorials and see if there are any that I can use. I have actually figured out most of the ins and outs of GIMP just by using it, but there is always something to learn. What I should probably do is get a print made, and then use it to gauge the colour and figure out what I need to do with the colour.
